Eryngium yuccifolium, commonly known as Rattlesnake Master, is a perennial native to the central and eastern North American tallgrass prairies. Despite its yucca-like appearance and thistle-like flower heads, it is actually a member of the carrot/parsley family (Apiaceae). In mid-to-late summer, stiff flowering stalks rise high above the foliage, crowned with dense clusters of spherical, pale green and white flower heads. Emitting a faint honey scent, these bristly blooms add a distinctive structural dynamic and dramatic texture to native landscapes.
