Rose Garden

Plan Your Visit

Visitors are welcome to explore and enjoy the garden daily from dawn to dusk.

Welcome to the Gene Strowd Community Rose Garden

A Chapel Hill gem since 1990.

Located within the Community Center Park on Estes Drive, the Gene Strowd Community Rose Garden features a wide variety of roses and companion plants. The garden’s design centers around a tranquil copper fountain with brick walkways that lead visitors through the blooms. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to sit in our shaded gazebo or a scenic stroll, the garden offers a peaceful retreat for all.

The garden proudly partners with the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department for events in the garden and garden maintenance. Plant care is provided by Birch Meadow Garden Care, a local landscaping company whose mission is to create and maintain beautiful landscapes that are inviting to humans while nurturing our local ecosystems.

Facilities

  • Restrooms: Public restrooms are available inside the Chapel Hill Community Center during their standard operating hours.
  • Accessibility: The garden is wheelchair and walker-accessible via the front gate. Please note that the back gate is not recommended for those with mobility aids due to the slope of the walkway. As with any outdoor environment, please exercise caution as walkways may occasionally have loose bricks or natural debris.

Garden Etiquette

To ensure the beauty of the garden is preserved for everyone, we kindly ask visitors to observe the following:

  • Stay on the Paths: Please remain on the brick walkways to protect our plants.
  • Respect the Blooms: We ask that you leave all flowers for others to enjoy.
