Bonica®

Scientific name: Rosa

Rose type: Shrub Rose

Bloom color: Pastel Pink

The Bonica® is a world-renowned landscape rose, famously named the “World’s Favorite Rose” in 1997. This exceptionally hardy shrub produces prolific clusters of shell-pink, double blooms that contrast beautifully against its dark, glossy, and disease-resistant foliage. A true garden workhorse, Bonica® provides consistent color from late spring until frost and follows its floral display with a stunning crop of bright orange-red hips that persist well into the winter.

Grow Guide

  • Light: Plant in Full Sun to Partial Shade. While it thrives in at least 6 hours of sun, it is famously tolerant of lower light conditions compared to most roses.
  • Hardiness: Highly resilient and suitable for Zones 4–11, making it one of the most adaptable roses for both extreme cold and heat.
  • Spacing & Size: This bushy, spreading shrub typically reaches 3–5′ tall and 4–5′ wide. Space plants 4′ apart to create a seamless flowering hedge.
  • Watering: Water regularly until fully established. Once mature, it prefers thorough watering early in the day to keep the foliage dry and prevent fungal issues.
  • Best Use: Its arching habit and reliable blooming make it perfect for hedges, mass plantings, or mixed borders. It is also an excellent choice for low-maintenance “problem areas” in the landscape.
