Iceberg Climbing
The Iceberg Climbing Rose is a vigorous and rugged climber, cherished for its abundance of pure, ice-white blooms. As a climbing sport of the world-famous ‘Iceberg’ floribunda, it retains all the best qualities of the original—disease resistance, easy care, and a long blooming season—but with a rampant growth habit. Its large, double flowers appear in massive clusters and exude a gentle, sweet honey fragrance. Known for being nearly thornless, it is a polite neighbor for walkways and seating areas where you want a “cloud of white” without the scratches.
Grow Guide
- Light: Thrives best in Full Sun (at least 6+ hours) for peak bloom production and disease resistance. However, it is notably shade tolerant compared to many other roses, performing well with as little as 4–5 hours of direct sun.
- Hardiness: Highly reliable across Zones 5–10. It is both cold-hardy and heat-tolerant, making it a staple in gardens from the chilly North to the sunny South.
- Spacing & Size: A fast grower that typically reaches 8–15′ in height with a spread of 6–10′. Space plants roughly 8–10′ apart to allow its vigorous canes room to stretch and ensure good air circulation.
- Watering: Requires regular watering until fully established. Once mature, it is reasonably drought-tolerant but performs best when provided with thorough weekly watering at the base of the plant.
- Best Use: Its nearly thornless nature and flexible canes make it perfect for training over arbors, trellises, and fences near high-traffic areas. It is also an excellent choice for a white-themed garden or as a luminous backdrop for a mixed border.
