Sporobolus heterolepis, commonly known as Prairie Dropseed, is a native warm-season grass of the North American tallgrass prairies. It grows in dense tufts of narrow bright green foliage that cascades outward like a fountain. In late summer, delicate golden flowers rise above the foliage. As the blooms mature, they emit a distinct, pleasant fragrance often compared to buttered popcorn. In autumn, the foliage transforms into a copper-orange hue before fading to a light cream in winter, offering multi-season interest and exceptional structural durability.
